The BETA.INV function returns the inverse of the beta cumulative probability density function (BETA.DIST).

  • This function was introduced in Excel 2010 and so is not available in earlier versions.
  • BETA.INV replaces the BETAINV function included in earlier versions of Excel.

Syntax

=BETA.INV(probability,alpha,beta,[A],[B])

Arguments

Argument Description
probability Specifies the name of a parameter
alpha A parameter of the distribution – must be > 0
beta A parameter of the distribution – must be > 0
[A] Optional. A lower bound to the interval of x. If omitted, [A] defaults to a value of 0
[B] Optional. An upper bound to the interval of x. If omitted, [B] defaults to a value of 1

Problem What went wrong
#VALUE! Occurs if any of the supplied arguments are non-numeric
#NUM! Occurs if either:

  the supplied probability value is ≤ 0 or ≥ 1
  the supplied [A] and [B] arguments are equal
  the supplied alpha or the supplied beta argument is ≤ 0
