The CHISQ.DIST function returns the chi-squared distribution.

  • This function was introduced in Excel 2010 and so is not available in earlier versions.

Syntax

=CHISQ.DIST(x,deg_freedom,cumulative)

Arguments

Argument Description
x The value at which the chi-square distribution is to be evaluated – must be ≥ 0
deg_freedom The number of degrees of freedom – must be an integer between 1 and 1010
cumulative A logical argument that specifies the type of chi-square distribution to be calculated. This can be either:

TRUE returns the cumulative distribution function
FALSE returns the probability density function

Examples

  A B C
1 Formula Result Notes
2 =CHISQ.DIST(0.5,2,TRUE) 0.221199 The chi-squared distribution for 0.5, returned as the cumulative distribution function, using 2 degrees of freedom
3 =CHISQ.DIST(0.5,2,FALSE) 0.3894 The chi-squared distribution for 0.5, returned as the probability density function, using 2 degrees of freedom

Common Function Error(s)

Problem What went wrong
#VALUE! Occurs if any of the supplied arguments are not recognised as numeric values
#NUM! Occurs if either:

the supplied value of x is negative
  the supplied deg_freedom argument is < 1 or > 1010
