Let’s face it, I don’t blog very often anyway, so this is my first post for the Daily Post Challenge – “My favorite things.” The demands of life just seem to get in the way.
My impression was that it was an interesting topic – one that could be interpreted in a variety of ways. In response to the post’s hints, I tried to think of material possessions that I held dear. If they were in a burning building, would I run back in?
I tried to think outside of the box, what do I have or do that makes me feel happy?
- My wife. It took me three attempts to find the right lady but now, life with her is wonderful.
- My children. I have two of the most wonderful children in the world. Of course, all fathers are going to say that but in my case, it is absolutely true.
- My optimism. I am always certain that if anything can go wrong, it will.
- My creativity. I love that I can write, draw, paint, and take photographs.
- My introversion and my extroversion. In college, my fellow nursing students voted me the most extroverted introvert they had ever met. As the years have passed, I have become less extroverted. There are times when I wish I was more outgoing, but I like my alone time by myself or with my wife.
- My eclectic taste in music and, well, everything. I like country, classical, rock, and folk music. I like Monet and The Far Side. I like “How The West Was Won” and “Airplane!”
- My sense of humor. I can make myself laugh. I can make everyone laugh. I cheer people up. Lately, this is a precious gift.
“My Favorite Things” is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens Brown paper packages tied up with strings These are a few of my favorite things. Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels; Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles; Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings; These are a few of my favorite things. Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes Silver-white winters that melt into springs These are a few of my favorite things When the dog bites, When the bee stings, When I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don't feel so bad.
